As a architecture student, we spend  a lot of time in red center day and night. During the day time some of the passive design could possibly save some energy such like the ventilation and natural lighting system. However, I had a deep feeling in the first week, red center or the whole university consume large amount of unnecessary energy  during the night time. For example, even there are only one or two student in the lab, all the computers are turned on for the entire night. According to some research, even in the stand by mode, one desktop is about 35w. Here is some calculation: about 20 computer per lab assume 15 are free at night, 6 lab in red center, 10 hours at night. 35w*15*6*10h=31.5kwh each day which is completely wasted. And this is just the computer lab, some artificial light and other facilities are also turned on overnight which in my point of view could be control by some sensor or just control by the security.
